Editorial Standards
These are the rules Property News Africa applies to every article we publish. We set them out openly so readers can judge our work against a stated standard, rather than taking our accuracy on trust.
We report from primary sources wherever they exist — company announcements, regulatory filings, government gazettes, planning approvals, central bank releases, court records and official statistical publications.
Where we first learn of a story from another publication, we trace it back to the underlying source and cite that source directly. We link to the documents our figures come from so readers can check them independently.
We do not publish stories sourced solely from unattributed social media posts, promotional material or press releases that cannot be corroborated.
Key statistics — project values, unit counts, yields, completion dates and transaction sizes — are checked against their original source before publication, not carried over from secondary reporting.
Where sources conflict, we say so and give the range rather than selecting the most favourable figure. Where a figure cannot be independently confirmed, we attribute it clearly to whoever provided it.
Currency conversions are stated with the rate and date applied. Where a figure is quoted in a currency subject to significant volatility, we note that.
Yield forecasts, rental return projections, capital growth estimates and completion timelines supplied by developers or their agents are labelled as developer estimates — not guaranteed. We publish them as claims made by an interested party, not as findings.
We report material negatives. Where a project or company is subject to buyer disputes, breach-of-contract claims, regulatory action, construction delays, funding shortfalls or litigation, we include that in our coverage and point readers toward appropriate due diligence.
We do not remove accurate negative information at the request of a developer, advertiser or commercial partner. Factual corrections are a separate matter, handled under the policy below.
We use AI tools to assist with research, drafting and source gathering. Every article is reviewed by our editorial team before publication, and every factual claim is verified by a person against its source. AI output is never published unchecked.
Where an article carries an AI-generated concept image, it is captioned: "AI-generated concept image. Not a representation of any actual project or development." These images are illustrative only. They do not depict real architecture, real designs or real sites, and should not be relied on as a representation of any project.
We correct errors of fact promptly and visibly. Corrections are noted on the article itself rather than made silently.
If you believe we have published something inaccurate, email editor@propertynews.africa with the article URL and the specific claim in question. We aim to respond within two business days.
Articles from contributing correspondents carry a byline naming the author and, where applicable, the photographer. Eyewitness accounts or on-the-ground observations we cannot independently verify are framed explicitly as correspondent reporting rather than as confirmed fact.
We correct mistakes openly. Send us the article and the claim, and we will review it.
